Barry Clifton Wood, 55, of Charlotte NC went home to be with the Lord February 22, 2017. He was born July 14, 1961 to Dr. D. Clifton Wood and the late Margaret Price Wood and lived most of his life in Charlotte.
A true techie by nature, Barry became an Electrical Engineer while working at Duke Energy and studying at NC State. Barry continued working at Duke until his retirement in December 2015 due to the effects of ALS. Working with video production was a true joy for him. Starting at age 14, he rode his bike to a local Christian television station to work as key grip. He continued work in sound and video whenever he had the opportunity. Most recent was his participation at church as a video switcher. He instilled in his family a love for hiking, photography, and a love of music. Barry grew up singing with his siblings and pursued musical activities throughout high school and college. He also sang as tenor of the Calvary Quartet, recording several gospel cd's, known as the man who could nail the high notes.
His gentle spirit and kind heart were the qualities that endeared him to all who knew him. His deep faith was truly the anchor holding him as he experienced everything that ALS brought to his life.
He is survived by wife Carmen Thiel Wood, son Nathan, and daughters Martina, Elyse, and Sophia. He is also survived by his father and wife, Ernstena Wood, and his sister Beverly Wood Wilson (Richard), nieces Lindsay Few (Brian) of Wilmington, Courtney Clark (Stuart) and Stephanie Wilson, of Charlotte, six nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends who loved him. He was preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Robert Wood.
A memorial Service will be held Monday, Feb 27, 2017 at Calvary Church at 11:00, with visitation following in the Rea Room. In lieu of flowers, friends may consider contributing in Barry's memory to: Inheritance of Hope, The Joe Martin ALS Foundation, or Love Not Lost.org
