Mrs. Barbara Gray Plummer of Charlotte completed her journey on earth Thursday January 29, 2015 at her home at Lake Wylie with her loving family surrounding her. Barbara was born on December 3, 1934 in Birmingham, AL.
Mrs. Plummer is survived by her four children and spouses: Sherry Rogers, Robin Needham, Kathy and David Hindman, and Sandra and Shawn Hayes; 4 grandchildren and spouses: Carl and Shannon Needham, Lindsay and Andrew Cole, Jacob Hindman and Samantha Hayes; 2 great grandchildren Addalyn Needham and River Cole. She is also survived by her 3 brothers: George and Brenda Gray, James and Brenda Gray and William Gray. Mrs. Plummer is proceeded in death by her husband, Fred L. Plummer, her sister, Sandra Gray and her parents, Miles and Mabel Gray.
Mrs. Plummer was a homemaker and later worked and retired from Hoechst Celanese as a computer programmer. She was a former member of Chantilly (now Cornerstone) Baptist Church in Charlotte. Currently she was a member of Grace Community UMC in Fort Mill, South Carolina. She was a Girl Scout and GA leader when her girls were younger.
Mrs. Plummer enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family, our referee, information/control center coordinator, Sunday dinner cook, chauffer, carpool mom for a lot of kids. Mrs. Plummer was loved by many and missed dearly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Underwood, Nurse Diane and Valerie Smith and all the wonderful family and friends who have supported all of us during this time.
The family will receive friends on Monday February 2 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Grace Community UMC 1190 Gold Hill Rd., Fort Mill at 11:00 am, Rev. Randy Madsen officiating (with visitation one hour prior to the service) followed by burial at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, Mrs. Plummer requested that memorials be sent to Grace Community UMC, 1190 Gold Hill Road Fort Mill, SC 29708 and Hospice of Charlotte.
