Barbara Jean Smith Davis

Mrs. Davis, 77, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010 at her home in Charlotte after a long illness. She was born May 10, 1933, a daughter of the late Grady Richmond Smith and Axie Letterman Smith and was a retired day care teacher.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Davis’ family includes her husband, Harry Bobby Davis Sr.; two sons, Jimmy Odell Johnson of Stanley, NC and Harry Bobby Davis Jr. (deceased); and three daughters, Sharon Varner of Charlotte, NC, Jeanette Davis Dibble of Sherrills Ford, NC and Susie McKinney of Arden, NC; as well as twenty grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

One of ten children, Mrs. Davis is survived by three sisters, Nettie Gibson and Ruth Novey, both of Fletcher, NC and Thelma Thompson of Crescent City, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six siblings including her twin brother, Ernest Ford Smith.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Davis’ life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5th in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Johnson officiating. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 4th at the funeral home.
