Matthews - Mrs. Barbara “Joyce” Duncan Hood, 71, of Matthews, NC passed away September 8, 2016. She was born February 12, 1945 in Orlando, Florida, a daughter of the late Clarence W. Duncan and Lucille Rish Duncan. Mrs. Hood grew up in Cocoa Beach, FL and was a graduate of Cocoa High School. She moved to Charlotte in 1970 with her late husband, Cameron W. Hood.
Mrs. Hood was the quintessential mother and loved “playing house” and entertaining her family and friends. She lovingly raised two children, all the while maintaining a beautifully kept home, working daily in her husband’s architectural firm, preparing a sit-down family dinner to be served promptly at 6 pm each night, taking the children to their various activities like baseball and gymnastics, serving in various roles for her church for several years, and faithfully attending services on Wednesdays and Sundays.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in the Harry and Bryant Co. “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:45 pm prior to the service.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Hood Miller and her husband, Charles; a son, Stephen G. Hood and his wife, Suzie; and a sister, Carol Duncan, all of Charlotte. She has seven grandchildren, Chase Miller, Carter Miller, Clayton Strickland, Craig Strickland, Cameron Miller, Cooper Hood and Farrah Hood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
