Barbara was the daughter of the late Hazel Stowe Miller and Vernell Knight Miller,
Barbara was born on September 1, 1936, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1954. After graduation, Barbara moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and was employed by Colonial Grocery stores. While working at Colonial, Barbara met her future husband, Bill Foard. Bill and Barbara were married on September 24, 1955. Bill and Barbara continued to work together at Big Star and Wayne’s Supermarket. Prior to her employment at Wayne’s with Bill, Barbara had a brief tenure at Park-n-Shop. While at Wayne’s, Barbara received the Employee of the Year award in 1986. Together they lived and raised their children in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte until 2014 when the airport bought their house and they moved to Gastonia.
Bill and Barbara loved to travel. They traveled across the country twice, first with their children and later with their grandchildren. Whether it was on long trips across the country, or just a week trip to the beach with the grandchildren, they thoroughly enjoyed going places. The vacations were always memorable and some type of unplanned adventures always occurred. Regardless, each vacation was priceless and amazing memories were captured.
The grandchildren spent a lot of time with MawMaw and PawPaw watching the Price is Right and older TV westerns. Bill and Barbara were also very active in church and served on several committees; Barbara worked in the nursery and taught the 2 and 3-year old Sunday School class, where she always had juice and cookies for the children on Sunday morning. Additionally, they served on the kitchen committee and helped with the weekly dinners at church. During their 66 years of marriage, Bill and Barbara were rarely seen without the other one. They worked together, traveled together, attended church where they served together and spent time with family and friends together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse Alfred (Bill) Foard, her sister Juline Miller Kennington, and son-in-laws, Stephen Farrar and Glenn Harris.
