Barbara Garmon Anderson, age 75, passed away at home on Friday, May 25, 2018. Barbara was born April 19, 1943 at Presbyterian Hospital to parents, AB Garmon, Jr. of Indian Trail, NC and Catherine Thompson Garmon of Mint Hill, NC.
She attended Charlotte Public Schools and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1961. Upon graduation she was employed by First Union National Bank and attended Kings Business College. She later worked for INA Insurance Company of North America.
In 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, James L. Anderson, Jr. (Jimmy) from Matthews, NC. She left INA in 1968 to await the birth of her first child, Richard Lee Anderson (Rick). In 1969, she gave birth to her second child, Roddy Lynn Anderson (Rod). Barbara was a hands-on mother. She stayed home until her boys started school. Every day thereafter, she participated in a school activity. She taught Great Books and was very active in the PTA making cookies and brownies. She was a wonderful sports mom, cheering on the boys’ teams and never missing a game. She also enjoyed being a scorekeeper and furnishing snacks and drinks.
When her sons were older, Barbara worked for Electrolux Corp as a sales representative. She followed in her father’s footsteps, who had worked for Electrolux for 43 years. Her career spanned 30+ years. She won many contests and attended many conventions. In 1995, Barbara was named among the top 50 Women in Sales in the US. She was well respected and conscientious in all of her business dealings. She treated everyone as she wanted to be treated.
Barbara was a Christian and attended Eastern Hills Baptist, then Mt. Harmony Baptist (her mother’s church). She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart. She had a special ministry of sending cards and little gifts to many people through the years who were blessed by receiving them. She was a devoted wife, mother and daughter; especially to her parents in their time of need. She loved her neighbors and enjoyed helping them.
Being a sports fan, she enjoyed the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Panthers and UNC Basketball. She also enjoyed decorating her home.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her sons, Richard Lee Anderson, wife, Lori, and her precious granddaughter, Emily Grace Anderson, whom she adored; son, Roddy Lynn Anderson, and his partner, Judy. Also surviving is her brother, “Dick” Garmon, wife, Jan, and their children, Tommy, Holly, Lynde, Jamie and their families. In addition, surviving is Jimmy Anderson, as well as her dear and closest friends, Dianna, Olivia, Sandra and Tricia. Also, left behind are many special cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 pm Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, with a funeral service to immediately follow at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Dr. Buddy Pigg will officiate. Interment is private.
