It is with great sadness that the family of Artemus Junior Hill announces his passing early Monday, February 26th, 2018. He was born March 28th, 1941 in Traverse City, Michigan to Artemus and Lena Hill.
Raised in Muskegon, Michigan, Art enlisted in the Army upon graduation from high school served in Germany and Colorado until 1962. While stationed in Colorado, he met the love of his life, Diane. Marrying way over his head, Art and Diane tied the knot on September 5th, 1964.
While starting a family, he worked for a variety of companies but never found those jobs as gratifying as his time in the military. In early 1976, he re-enlisted in the Army ultimately reaching the senior non-commissioned officer rank of Master Sergeant.
During his career in the Army he was able to travel throughout Europe with his family while proudly serving his nation. He retired from the Army in 1991. Little more than a year later, with both boys in college, he and Diane settled in their home in South Charlotte.
Following his Army career, Art worked in Charlotte until his second retirement in 2006. Since then, he and Diane traveled extensively through Europe and to all 50 states. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and golfing as much as humanly possible—notching his only hole-in-one in 2007. An original Carolina Panther permanent seat license (PSL) owner, Art enjoyed following his adopted team from Section 523 at every home game.
Art and Diane found their church family at Pineville United Methodist Church in 2003.
Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Diane; his sons Eric and Jeff as well as Jeff’s wife Rebecca and their triplets, Grace, Noah, and Aiden. He is also survived by his sisters Kay Sells (proceeded in death her husband, Lloyd Sells), Pauline Kaminski (proceeded in death her husband, Jack Kaminski), and Marilyn & Terry Cluchey; brothers-in-law Randy & Peggy Short, Scott & Christel Short; and sisters-in-law Jill Short and Bonnie Short (proceeded in death by her husband, Rick Short). Art will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Services for Art will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Pineville United Methodist Church, 110 S. Polk St., Pineville, NC 28134. The Visitation is from 2 - 4 PM, and the Memorial Service will begin at 4 PM.
