He was born on September 30, 1936 in Kingston, Jamaica.
After graduating from the University of the West Indies, Tony immigrated to the United States in 1972 to work for the Bank of New York. He married the love of his life Eleanor O’Rane in 1976 and they remained happily married for 47 years.
Tony was a people person at heart, and never knew a stranger. He lit up every room with his charm, humor, and hilarious stories. He constantly made people laugh, either with jokes or indirectly through his hilarious antics. Tony always provided guidance and support to anyone who was privileged to be around him. He had an unwavering commitment to his family, and gave enormous amounts of his time to support and encourage his children as teenagers and later as adults, traveling constantly to visit and take part in their lives.
He is survived by his two children, Jolyon O’Rane and Anne Philpott; his brother Gladstone O’Rane; his sister Joyce Ogunshuyi; and five beautiful grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. His last words were “Hello, Hello, Hello!!!” as they ran to embrace him in a warm hug. Tony was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded by his parents Aston and Bernice O’Rane, his brother Alex O’Rane, and his wife Eleanor O’Rane.
A memorial service for Anthony will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Woodlawn Community Fellowship, 737 East Woodlawn Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.
