Annette Biggers Smith, age 86, of Morganton, NC, transitioned into eternal life on May 30, 2021, at Grace Hospital, Morganton, NC. Annette was the wife of Colonel William ("Bill") A. Smith, USAF-Retired; and the daughter of the late Joseph Watson Biggers, Sr. and Willie Jordon Biggers Brown.
Annette was originally from the Hickory Grove community of Charlotte, NC. She met her husband at East Mecklenburg High School in a 12th grade English class; they were married for 67 years.
She grew up as a member of Hickory Grove Methodist Church, and after she and Bill were married, they worshipped and served at Grace Baptist Church and various Presbyterian churches over the years, the last of which were Carolina PCA and Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Monroe, NC.
After the children were grown and married, Annette returned to school at CPCC and received her associates degree in secretarial science and studied another year to be a medical transcriptionist. She loved working with physicians, nurses and patients.
Annette volunteered for a number of years as a Gray Lady with the American Red Cross at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Later she was employed at Mercy Hospital as Secretary to Sister Mary James , RSM and in the admitting office of Mercy Hospital. Annette worked part-time with Byrum's Florist and Grace Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. She also was employed with Travis Medical Group (which later became First Charlotte Physicians) as a medical transcriptionist until she retired.
Annette was always happiest when she was helping others to have a better life. Her family was one of the most important values of her life, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Bill also helped with rescue animals. They adopted many of them and, of course, they became their four-footed fur babies!
One of her greatest accomplishments in retirement was to write a book for her children and grandchildren... "Ramblings from My Heart"... a collection of stories and events of her life and that of her family. Her book was published when she was in her early 80's. She began her second book when she was 85 years of age.
Annette was preceded in transition to eternal life by her parents and her step-father, Nereus "Bud" Brown, a step-sister, Betty Brown Elliott; a beloved aunt and uncle, Rev. Luther Taylor and Mrs. Mattie Taylor; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Madeline Biggers; and life-time friend, June Dulin Winkler.
