He was born September 15, 1926 in Mt. Gilead, son of late Myrtie Hilton Coggin and Wade Coggin. Following high school, Al served three years in World War II as a Naval Air Tech and received a degree in accounting.
In 1946, Al started his career with Duke Energy, retiring from Duke after 36 years. Following his retirement, he began living out his dream of buying and selling antiques. He opened the Mooresville Emporium where he never met a stranger.
Al is survived by his wife Pat; daughters, Terri Coggin, Vicki Coggin Ahner (Larry), and Pam Coggin Simms (Garry); grandchildren, Brittany Coggin Webber (Chris), Mallory Simms, and Louis Simms; and sister, Alda Edwards (James).
He was preceded in death by his brother, Max Coggin and sister, Virginia Kinch.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45 pm on Wednesday, March 6, at Harry and Bryant, 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, followed by a celebration of Al’s life at 3:00 pm.
