Mrs. Ducker was born on December 3, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of Adele Quinton Gregory and Harrison W. Gregory. Her early years were spent in Shenandoah, PA. At eight years of age, she was one of the original members of the First Junior Choir organized at the Methodist Church, where she later was Choir Director. She sang in Methodist church choirs in Brookline, MA, Wytheville, VA, North Wilkesboro, NC, where she was a soloist, and for twenty-four years at Myers Park United Methodist Church after joining in1943. She was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women and Circle #1.
Mrs. Ducker was a charter member and the third President of the Junior Woman’s Club of Charlotte and the first President of McClintock Junior High Parent Teacher Association.
After the death of her husband, Stephen Dexter Chadwick of Calais, Maine in 1958, she was the Charlotte City Hostess of the New Neighbors League. In 1962 she was asked to write the daily “Chatter Box” column for the Charlotte News. She was formerly a member of the Board of the Charlotte Music Club, the Community Concert Assoc., the Opera Guild of Charlotte, and the “Seedlings” of Lake Norman, where she lived for 20 years before moving to Aldersgate Retirement Community.
Mrs. Ducker designed and made many of her own dresses, suits, coats, and draperies. She was also an artist and loved gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Leslie Ducker, Jr., whom she married in 1967; her son, Dexter Gregory Chadwick and daughter-in-law, Knox P. Chadwick of Greenville, NC; son, Philip Russell Chadwick and daughter-in-law, Paige P. Chadwick of Fountain Hills, AZ; stepson, Andrew Leslie Ducker, III and daughter-in-law, Karen H. Ducker of Coral Springs, FL; grandchildren: Stephen Chadwick (Emmy), Jane Chadwick, Philip “Chad” Chadwick (Nancy), Tiffany Burton (Jason), Drew Ducker (Ashley), Michelle Ducker, Brett Ducker, Jason Ducker and Gary Yates (Michelle); three great-granddaughters; and nieces, Lovina Shew, Sandy Faw and Dawn Shepherd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Fellowship Class of Myers Park United Methodist Church or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
