Addie attended Biddleville Elementary School and West Charlotte High School, where she excelled academically and graduated with honors. Addie earned a bachelor’s degree from Johnson C. Smith University and a master’s degree from the Teacher’s College at Columbia University, New York.
Addie’s career as an educator spanned 31 years with teaching assignments in Monroe, North Carolina, Myers Street Elementary, University Park Elementary and Hidden Valley Elementary schools. Addie was a lifelong member of Greater Gethsemane A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as the Organist for 16 years.
Addie was preceded in death by her parents, Phoebe Benson and Clarence Gibson Peeler, and her brother James Gibson Peeler. Addie’s quiet demeanor and kind smile will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory, brothers Oliver Wendell Peeler (wife Ruth) of Stockton California and William H. Peeler of Greensboro, NC; nieces Katrina M. Thomas, Dena P. Acolatse (husband Connel), Latrelle P. McAllister (husband Michael), Kim P. Simmons (husband Henry) and Tracy Peeler; four great nieces; two great nephews; and a host of special cousins and friends.
A memorial to celebrate Ms. Peeler’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 8, 2016, in the Paul Helton Chapel at Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Services, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208. The family will receive friends at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greater Gethsemane A.M.E. Zion Church and The Levine Cancer Institute.
