Acree Solomon Armstrong

Acree S. Armstrong, 92, a native Charlottean, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of August 9, 2022. She was predeceased by her father, Lucas James Solomon, and her mother, Ida Linker Solomon, along with five brothers, Lucas James Solomon, Jr. (Amelia), Ardrey Anderson Solomon (Margaret), Morris DeWhitt Solomon, Howard Allen Solomon, and Louie Mason Solomon (Jeannie), and her husband of 62 years, William P. Armstrong.

After graduating from Harding High School in 1947, she went to work for Ralston Purina Company where she remained until retiring in 1990. Many co-workers remained her lifelong friends.

Acree was a long time member of First A.R.P. Church and Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church, in Charlotte, and later, Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church. She gave of herself in many ways at each church and enjoyed great friendships along the way. She was always eager to help and was gifted with administrative abilities.

Annual family beach trips were a favorite of hers, along with playing bridge with friends and traveling with Bill. They had wonderful years of retirement together that included fun time with their grandchildren. She loved working in the yard, watching sports with Bill, and visiting shut-ins too.

Acree is survived by her sister, Nancy Solomon Patterson (Jim); one daughter, Robin Ivey (Gary); one grandson, Peter Ivey (Becca); one granddaughter, Mara Teal (Alex); and seven great grandchildren, Londyn Rae Ivey, Owen Price Ivey, Miles Craven Ivey, Asher Richard Teal, Banner Charles Teal, Ivey Jane Teal, and Amelia Grace Teal.

The family will be served by McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. Visitation will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, August 15, 2022 with a celebration service to follow at 1:00 p.m., with Dr. Ron Tippens presiding. Thereafter will be a graveside service.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to some special people at Aldersgate who befriended and compassionately cared for Acree during the last six years. They were the “hands and feet” of Christ, as were the members of her extraordinary Hospice team.
