Mary Louise Callison Maroney died on Tuesday, June 24th after a short illness. Mary Lou was born in Corliss, WV, in Fayette County, on December 14th, 1922 to Myrth and Stella Amick Callison. She graduated from East Bank High school in 1942. After high school while working for the local coal company president, Mary Lou was recruited to Detroit to work on airplanes during World War II as one of the iconic Rosie the Riveters. After two years, she felt called to join the Navy to further serve her country. While both were in the service, she married Daniel Vincent Maroney, Jr, they began a family and eventually they continued a life of service in politics, their church and community. She was very active with Vincent as he served as the International President of the Amalgamated Transit Union. She also taught for a brief time at St. Francis Elementary School. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Coalburg, WV and a resident of Edgewood Summit for the past 14 years where many friends and staff became extended family. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 57 years, Vincent, her son Danny, and her eight siblings, Wilma, Lib, Helen, Gladys, Betty Jane, Bill, Fenton and John Henry, son-in-law David Wright and many extended family members. She is survived by her four daughters, Debbie Wright, Margaret Bowen (Ricky), Elizabeth Kasabian (Bob), Mary Emma Maroney, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, beloved brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and a host of friends. Visitation will be held Friday evening at Wilson Funeral Home 420 Lee St. West, from 7 pm to 9 pm. Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at Good Shepherd Catholic Mission Church in Coalburg/East Bank, First Avenue East Bank, WV at 11 am.
