Born September 2, 1959 in Columbia to Wyman Douglas Shealy (deceased) and Miriam Adams Shealy, Doug was a graduate of Irmo High School and obtained an Associate’s Degree from Midlands Technical College as an Architectural Draftsman. He put that knowledge to great use working first for Crouch Construction Company and ultimately spending 27 years as a Senior Project Manager for GMK Associates.
An avid outdoorsman and lover of fellowship, Doug spent a great deal of time in the woods or on the water enjoying time with his family and friends. Afterwards he’d be the first to man the grill and would make sure a good time was had by all. He’ll be sorely missed at the next gathering but fondly remembered each and every time we get together, and we rejoice in the knowledge that we will see him again.
He is survived by his Robyne, his high school sweetheart and loving and devoted wife of 40 years; his son, Adam (Denise) of Columbia and his pride and joy, grandson Vance. Also surviving are his two brothers, Craig (Jana) of Leesville and Joe Pat (Christie) of Pawleys Island. The next generation includes nephews Ethan, Rivers and Shelton, as well as two beautiful nieces that he adored, Nina and Taylor.
A brief family and friends service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church of Irmo. A gathering afterwards to celebrate a life well lived will be held at the family’s residence.
