The last 40 years were spent in the Columbia area and on Lake Murray. He retired from AT&T in 2012 after a 41-year career. After that came hunting, fishing and boating. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is predeceased by his father, C. Blake Smith; mother, Jessie Dempsey Smith and brother, Danny Smith.
Bill is survived by his wife, Gale Shealy Smith of Chapin; their son, William David Smith (Kelly); their wonderful grandchildren, Peyton and Madison, all of Summerville, SC and his brother, John “BoBo” Smith (Billie) of Orangeburg, SC.
A memorial service will be held to honor his memory on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 4:00 pm at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. His family will greet guests from 3:00 - 3:45 pm before the service.
A private burial is planned at a later date.
