Virginia “Ginnie” Cullis Lundgren was born on Palm Sunday, April 9, 1933 in Irvington, NJ. She was baptized at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark, NJ. Growing up in Kenilworth, NJ, Ginnie attended a nearby community Bible Church where, at 17, she accepted Christ into her life.
She trained in New York City as a secretary and was employed at White Labs. Ginnie met her husband, Carl when working at AT&T Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ as he was on active duty at Ft. Monmouth’s US Army R&D Labs.
Ginnie was received by the Episcopal Church as she and Carl were married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield, NJ on Dec. 7, 1963. She was a proud member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Red Bank, NJ (1964-2009). Her spiritual outreach included a Gideon ministry to women at the Freehold, NJ jail with her good friend, Betty Chase.
In 2009, Carl and Ginnie retired to the shores of Lake Murray in Chapin, SC. Here they became members of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where Ginnie was involved in a variety of spiritual outreach programs. She volunteered weekly at the St. Francis Thrift Shop, enjoyed working with the prayer shawl ministry, and supported the Hispanic ministry by providing Spanish Gideon Bibles.
She especially loved her garden, the wildlife in and around Lake Murray, and knitting.
Ginnie is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carl; two devoted children, David and Janet; and two amazing grandchildren, Kaylie and Trevor.
A graveside celebration will be held at 12:00 pm on April 17, 2021 at the St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Cemetery on 735 Old Lexington Hwy., Chapin, SC. It will also be livestreamed on Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel's Facebook page.
