CHAPIN Mrs. Thelma Boland Lindler Whitaker, 87, entered eternal rest on Resurrection Sunday, April 5. 2015. Born May 28, 1927 in Chapin, she was a daughter of John Noah Lindler and Bertha Marie Boland. She was a lifelong member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Lutheran Women and served on the Altar Guild. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Louie W. Whitaker; son and daughter-in-law, Don & Pam Whitaker of Pomaria; daughter and son-in-law, Karen & Les Sutphin of Columbia; and daughters-in-law, Jackie Whitaker of Columbia and Hwa Sun Whitaker of Hinesville, GA; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.
She was the last member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, three half-brothers, and three half-sisters. She was also predeceased by sons, Alvin L. Whitaker and Gene L. Whitaker.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8th at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Kevin Powers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
The family will receive friends an hour and a half before the service in the St. Jacob's Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, the Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of one’s choice.
