Sara enjoyed many interests in her life. She loved animals, and shared her homes with many cats and dogs. She particularly enjoyed raising and breeding Schnauzer puppies.
Sara loved being outdoors. She was an accomplished marathon runner, racing across the southeast and the streets of New York in the New York City Marathon.
Sara also loved reading and going to the movies. She was a longtime volunteer at the Nickelodeon Theatre in Columbia.
Sara's vocation was teaching foreign languages. She earned a Ph.D. in French from the University of Kentucky, and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and in Quebec. She was a Professor at Newberry College until her retirement in 2010.
Her family would like to extend a special "thank you" to her caregivers, Wanda McKeever and Debbie Kelly, and to Denise Oxford, her friend and benefactor.
Funeral services and burial will be at a later date at the family cemetery in Vienna, IL.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She was a brave and loving soul.
