Michael “Mike” was born in Columbia, SC to George Irby Neal and Alma Martin Neal. Mike had two sisters, Sylvia Neal VanTyle and Cynthia Neal Morris. He grew up in Eau Claire and was a 1962 graduate of Eau Claire High School. He attended Richland Tech and served in the Air National Guard.
He met and married Evelyn Anne Johnson from North Augusta in 1966 when she was at Columbia College. They were happily married for 59 years, first living in Eau Claire and then moving to their forever home near Chapin where they raised their two daughters, Anne Michelle Hunt (Lee Hunt, Anna-Neal and Daniel) and Laurie Elizabeth Matthews (Ron Matthews, Trey, Emmie, Maddie, and Derrick).
Mike was active in serving at their first church, College Place United Methodist. When the family moved to the Chapin area, he continued to serve at Chapin Christian Community Church (formerly Chapin UMC) as President of the Methodist Men and the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class as well as other various committees. He was active with the youth and chaperoned many trips.
Mike loved all kinds of hunting and fishing. He was a member of Dr. Carroll Pinner‘s Hunt Club and the Peak Coffee Club. He was an active member of the Mid Carolina Lion’s Club and Peak Community Center. Mike worked as a Superintendent at Congaree Construction for 39 years. After his retirement, Mike worked for Edcon Construction for 6 additional years.
Mike loved his family and friends and faithfully served his Heavenly Father.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Chapin Christian Community Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036, with visitation to follow.
