Judy Wilson passed away peacefully on June 13th with Skip, her husband of 28 years, right by her side… the place where one could always find him. Judy bravely endured health issues for many years, but will no longer, as she’s now with her Lord in Heaven, with a healthy mind and body.
Judy was the sweetest, most devoted and loving wife. We will always be the best of friends and I can’t wait to be together again in heaven to continue our love affair…for eternity.
Born in Bamberg, SC on March 23, 1954, she was the daughter of the late George Wesley Hartzog and Dorothy Hartzog. Judy graduated Salutatorian from Blackville-Hilda High School in 1972 and played on the girls’ varsity basketball team. After graduation, she worked in the consumer banking industry in Blackville and went on to attend and graduate from Bankers School in Columbia, SC. After Bankers School, she went to work for Southern Bank in the consumer loan division.
In 1995, Judy and Skip married at Salem Baptist Church, a small quaint church Judy attended while growing up in Hilda, SC. After marrying, Judy and Skip moved to Chapin, SC to continue their wonderful life together.
They are current members of Chapin Christian Community Church in Chapin. Judy loved to go to church and always wanted to sit in the front pew to listen to her favorite preacher, Pastor Jody Flowers. Over the last few years, Judy’s health prevented her from attending, but she was able to stream and watch the church services from home. Not wanting to miss seeing Pastor Jody, Judy still made sure she and Skip had front row seats in the den.
Judy was a great cook and loved the simple way of life. She loved working with plants, going to the beach, reading books and most of all loved animals.
Judy truly desired and appreciated the simple things in life. Never wanting the attention on herself, but always willing to love, share and care for others as much as she could.
Judy is survived by her husband Skip; her step-children Reid Wilson and Jay Wilson (Cassie), grandchildren (Meredith & Bruce); Sister & Brother-in-law(s) Diane Weatherford (Bill Sr.), Joanne Taylor (Larry); Brothers, David Hartzog (Jean) and Wesley Hartzog; Sister, Sandra Fogle (James); Nieces, Lynn Hartzog, Patty Hartzog (Scottie), Debra Hartzog, Kelly Johnson, Melanie Amos, Jessica Clark (Justin), and Stephanie Creech; Nephews, Ryan Fogle (Caroline) Brandon Fogle (Lana), Bill Weatherford, Jr. (Debbie), Britt Johnson, Ken Hartzog, and Claude Hartzog in addition to many great-nephews and great-nieces. Judy is pre-deceased by her older brother Pat Hartzog.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Chapin Christian Community Church
