Floyd was born in Chapin, South Carolina on March 21, 1943 and remained a Chapin resident his entire life. Floyd was a proud member of the Grand Lodge AFM Little Mountain #281 and a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple.
Floyd was a founding partner in S&S Garage in the early 1970s where he worked until his retirement. In the mid-1980s, Floyd and Wendell “Wink” Shealy moved S&S Garage from the corner of Old Lexington Avenue and Chapin Road to 930 Chapin Road. The new location was not only larger, it also featured a storefront. S&S Garage continued to offer top quality automotive care, gasoline and wrecker service. That small storefront was more than just convenient, it was the birthplace of “Cat Daddy” as Floyd was dubbed in the early 1990s, and that nickname stuck. “The Store” was more than a place in the middle of town to grab gas, boiled peanuts, a Coke or the coldest beer in town. S&S quickly became a beloved gathering spot where you could find locals, fisherman, fish stories, NASCAR aficionados’, bikers, tall tales, armchair quarterbacks, passionate political debates and too many life lessons to count. As Floyd “Cat Daddy” renewed his love of Harley Davidson motorcycles, he sparked that same passion in his two girls who became avid riders as well. Together, the Slice family would become the hosts to thousands of fellow riders as a favorite stop on dozens of charitable Poker Runs over the years.
Floyd was a devoted grandfather and treasured the time he spent with “The Boys” throughout their childhoods and into adulthood. The family is confident that “Cat Daddy” is now surrounded by family and dear friends that passed before him, telling tales, catching up and rejoicing in the glory of God.
A private service will be held at a later date.
