Brenda Beatty Walters

Brenda Beatty Walters, 76, of Chapin, South Carolina died Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Born in Cliffside, North Carolina on April 1, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Harley and Margaret Beatty. She was the treasured wife of Richard Arlington Walters, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July of 2022. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister, Ann Culbreth (Spencer). She is preceded in death by their son, Richard “Richie” A. Walters, Jr.

Brenda had a wonderful career in education after receiving a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and, over the years, taught in North Carolina as well as Summerville, Columbia, and Irmo, South Carolina. She and Richard met at an educational convention in Portland, Oregon. They moved from Walterboro, South Carolina to Chapin, South Carolina in 1974 as Richard was in the doctoral program at the University of South Carolina.

She was an accomplished seamstress and pianist, but her true passion was spending time in the kitchen baking and preserving food. She and Richard enjoyed several trips to Europe and traveled throughout the United States. Brenda was a very active member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin and joined the church early in its history. Over the years, she sang in the choir, served as chair and member for several committees, served on the vestry, and coordinated the Feast Groups.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, January 12 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church. The church address is 735 Old Lexington Highway, Chapin, SC. A private burial service will be held at a later date. The service will be live streamed through the church's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/St.Francis.Chapin/
