WILLIAM PHILLIP DAVIS (BILL), 81,PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2023 IN CHANDLER ARIZONA. HE WAS BORN IN NORFOLK, VIRGINIA ON SEPTEMBER 10, 1941 BUT MOVED WITH HIS FAMILY TO KITTY HAWK, NORTH CAROLINA IN 1953 WHERE HIS FAMILY OPENED AND OPERATED THE WINKS GROCERY CHAIN. HE LIVED MOST OF HIS LIFE IN KITTY HAWK AND VERY MUCH LOVED THE OUTER BANKS.
AFTER GRADUATING FROM WEEKSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL HE JOINED THE ARMY, GOING TO OFFICERS CANDIDATE SCHOOL BECOMING AN OFFICER BEFORE BEING DEPLOYED TO VIETNAM. HE HAD THE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS JOB OF FORWARD OBSERVER AND WAS ALWAYS THANKFUL FOR HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE.
BILL GRADUATED FROM CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY AND IMMEDIATELY WENT TO WORK FOR THE CITY OF NEWPORT NEWS AS SUPERVISOR OF TRANSPORTATION WHICH HE DID FOR 10 YEARS. THEN BACK TO HIS BELOVED OUTER BANKS WHERE HE JOINED THE FAMILY AND THE WINKS CORPORATION.
HE HAD A GREAT TIME PLAYING GOLF AT DUCK WOODS COUNTRY CLUB, FISHING ON THE OBX SURF FISHING TEAMS, RV-ING AND TRAVELING. HE WOULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, ANYTIME AND HAVE MORE FUN THAN ANYONE THERE. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY, HIS FRIENDS, HIS OBX, AND HIS LIFE IN GENERAL.
BILL IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE OF 53 YEARS, CATHY, OF THE HOME, HIS DAUGHTER SHERRI SAWYER OF POWELLS POINT, HIS SON, ROBERT F WORKMAN (CHIP) AND HIS WIFE KIM OF NEWALLA, OKLAHOMA. HE LEFT TWO BROTHERS MILES W DAVIS AND JERRY A DAVIS(ARLENE) BOTH OF KITTY HAWK, BROTHER-AND SISTER-IN-LAW RANDY AND HOLLY WEST OF KITTY HAWK. 3 GRANDCHILDREN, RYAN, TAYLOR AND ANDREW, 3 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN AND A COUSIN DON (TERRY) HOLLOMON OF HAMPTON VIRGINIA.
BILL HAD A GREAT CAPACITY FOR LOVE AND HIS FAMILY WAS ALWAYS HIS TOP PRIORITY. WE WILL ALL MISS HIS SMILING, HAPPY FACE AND GREAT OUTLOOK ON LIFE.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WILL BE HELD AT BLACK PELICAN RESTAURANT, 3848 VIRGINIA DARE TRAIL IN KITTY HAWK ON APRIL 23RD, 2023, 1-3 O'CLOCK.
