Virginia Ann Long, 96, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away June 23, 2024. She was born on February 27, 1928, to Nellie and Philip Moore in McCook, Nebraska. Virginia graduated from McCook High School, and attended St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas.
She married Donald Prince Long on May 27, 1953, in McCook, NE. They moved to Hastings, NE, then Holdrege, NE, where they worked, volunteered, and raised their three children. Following Don’s retirement, they moved to Sun Lakes, AZ, where Virginia continued to live after Don’s passing in 2005.
Virginia was a member of St. Steven’s Roman Catholic Church. She was blessed with many friends throughout her life. She especially enjoyed coffees at the Safeway Starbucks and afternoons playing Hand & Foot and Rummikub.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Long of Jacksonville, NC, Barbara (Tom) Reed of Indianapolis, IN, and Brian (Ann) Long of Kearney, NE. Grandchildren Luis, Rod, and John Paul Long; Christine Reed Helmick, Kathleen and Maureen Reed, Makarena Saldias Thiel; Erik and Katelyn Long. Great grandchildren Catherine and Austin Long; Sophia and Sam Long; Alexandra Helmick and Xavier Thiel. She is also survived by her brother, Neal Moore, of Rochester Hills, MI. Virginia leaves behind many of her Sun Lakes, Mesa, and Chandler friends who were family to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, daughter-in-law Luisa Long, and grandson Michael Long.
A memorial mass is Monday, July 1, at 10:00 am at St. Steven’s Church in Sun Lakes.
