Terry was born in Shirva, India in 1938, to Simon (late) & Remedia (late) D'Souza. She was the youngest of 3 siblings, the older 2 being her brothers, Ligory (late) & Lawrence. She graduated with a high school diploma and a teaching certificate. She married Lawrence Martis (late), and had 3 sons, Godfrey (late), Wilfred & Thomas. She worked as a school teacher at Indian School, Kuwait, for many years. A few years after the death of her husband in 1976, who was an aircraft mechanic at Kuwait Airways, she was hired by Kuwait Airways as a technical librarian. She continued to work for Kuwait Airways until Kuwait was invaded by Iraq in 1990. In 1992, she moved to the USA to be with her sons, Wilfred & Thomas. Upon becoming a US citizen, she got a job at Fry's Marketplace at Ray & Rural in Chandler as a greeter, and worked there for 10 years. She loved that job because she got to hug & chat with many of the store's frequent shoppers. In her retired life, she enjoyed working out at the YMCA gym, volunteering with her church group, hanging out with friends, reading, and watching sports & her favorite soap operas.
Terry is survived by her son Wilfred, son Thomas, daughter-in-law Hina, and grandsons Ian & Zubin.
As a school teacher for many years, Terry was most proud of the difference she made in her students’ lives. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Si Se Puede Foundation for STEM education here:
