As a child, I lived across the street from Mrs. Barkdoll, the proud mom of Florence and Ivan.  As Florence's friend, Susannah welcomed me into their home for sleepovers, Star Trek viewing, carmel popcorn nights, and other fun times. She always had something interesting going on in their home. She was a career woman and role model who was ahead of her time.  Susannah will be fondly remembered for her intelligence, enthusiasm, sense of adventure, and love for her family.

    Susannah was the first person I met as a Freshman at the University of Arizona in 1955. It was an immediate friendship. Susannah’s Mother, Hazel Beck, was of the Bebee family who had lived in the Cripple Creek, Colorado area, where I lived. That Thanksgiving, Susannah invited me to come to her home in Beaumont, CA to meet her family for the holiday. In the following 4 to 5 years, we were roommates for one year, members of the same Chi Omega sorority, and studied together. Following graduation, Susannah even took time from her busy schedule at the hospital in Tucson to visit me after the birth of my son. We kept in touch throughout the intervening years.
    I am grateful for having such a wonderful friend for these many years. We last visited at the mini reunion with four Chi O’s in May, 2018. 


Susannah was my roommate at the Chi O house at the University of Arizona.  As she was a bacteriology major and I was in Chemistry we shared a lot of classes and study time together.  We kept up throughout the years.  We both ended up living in San Diego at the same time and after I retired I would see her when I was in the Phoenix area.  The last time I saw her was pre-pandemic, when four of the Chi O sisters gathered in Colorado for a mini reunion.  I stopped and spent a couple of days at her apartment on my way back to San Diego.  Throughout this last last year we exchanged a lot of e-mails.  I will truly miss her.
