Eulogy
By: Spencer Odell Aubrey
I knew Steve, and perhaps still do as a living memory.
As a man who loved God, loved people,
And deeply desired for his relationship with the Lord to define his life in spite of the trials and tribulations he’d faced in life.
I know Steve as a grandfather figure.
Who taught me the value of inconvenience and how important that is to building lasting and deep relationships.
Steve annoyed me.
Yet, showed me through the hours of conversations that though we shared differences, what brought us together was Jesus.
Steve taught me about laying down your life for your friends.
Steve was my friend, my brother, and someone I deeply respected. Even though I knew that our conversations would be way to long, they put me in better mood than when I started.
Steve taught me to value the Gospel in ways I could only experience, and because of that I am eternally grateful to Jesus for him.
Steve will always share a space in my heart as the man who I had the privilege of helping when no one else would, and providing me an opportunity to slow down long enough to walk at a pace worthy of connection.
I loved Steve as a brother in Christ and as a friend.
I loved him as one who knew my heart on things, and challenged my thinking with wisdom and perspective that can only come with trusting in the Lord over time.
I am forever thankful for Steve.
May the Lord smile upon him as he offers a song of endless praise in His presence.
Steve was and still is the brother in Christ that helped me learn more about myself in spite of my pride.
He will always have a special place in my heart.
Jesus bless Steve.
Amen.
