Formerly of Northbrook, IL and Boynton Beach, FL passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023 at the age of 89 with family by his side in Chandler, AZ.
Rabbi Hazzan Shlomo Shuster dedicated his life to the Jewish Community – serving as Hazzan at Niles Township for 27 years. He was deeply involved with and served the Chicagoland Russian Jewish community which he and Elana loved dearly.
He also served as the President of the Midwest Cantors Assembly representing his colleagues with honor and distinction for 14 + years. During this time he also worked with several institutions of higher education as an adjunct professor, and taught and mentored several students of Judaism who now have congregations of their own and communities that they serve with distinction, and who truly honor him by carrying on his message of prayer and love of all things representing what brings a Jewish family and community together. His message of the love of Jewish culture, prayer and music lives on through the many he touched.
Rabbi Hazzan Shlomo Shuster is survived by daughters Aviva (Richard) Hedge, Dina Derman and grandchildren Tyler and Shae Beckett. He was preceded in death by Elana, loving wife of 69 years and daughters Avis (Dean) Davison and Aliza (James) Beckett. Rest in peace and "sing unto the lord a new song".
