Raymond Mitchell Gurule, age 84, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away on December 26, 2023. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on April 25, 1939. He was one of 5 brothers. Ray graduated from Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, California. He received an apprenticeship in tool design.
Ray was married to the first love of his life, Starr Vogel, on December 24, 1966 in National City, California. She passed away in a car accident in 1988. He was lucky enough to find a second love of his life, Carol Gustafson, who he married on March 16, 1991. They had an amazing life together, traveling, enjoying various hobbies like rock mining, square dancing, golfing, gardening and so much more.
He had a career in tool design for Boeing, where he retired from. Ray served in the Army, including playing for the Army baseball team. He became quite the celebrity traveling through Germany playing baseball. He was a member of The Rock and Gem and Elks Club, and had a passion for golfing, biking, running, creating stained glass buildings and houses, making sphere rocks, spending time with his family, his love for Jesus and studying the Bible, especially the Book of Revelation.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Tara Turk and her husband Corey; grandchildren Matthew, Gregory, Melissa, CJ, Nicholas, Seth, Stefan, Brock and Starr; siblings Michael, Gerald and Dale.
A celebration of life for Raymond will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 East Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
