April 15, 1937 – July 14, 2022
Our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great Grams peacefully passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022. Norma Jean McCullough was born to Jim and Jesse Habkirk in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada on April 15, 1937. She had a wonderful, happy childhood in Red Deer, Alberta. Attending grade school and The Red Deer Composite High School provided many fun times as she maintained those close friends throughout her life. In high school she met the love of her life, Bob McCullough. After graduation, she attended the University of Alberta Nursing School, and at age 21 completed her degree as a Registered Nurse, a lifelong dream. Her family and friends affectionately called her “Nursie Norma.” Soon after, on September 6, 1958, Bob and Norma married in Red Deer and set off for the University of North Dakota, where Bob studied Accounting and Norma worked as a Nurse. While there, they welcomed their son, Brian, and later in Portland, Oregon, their daughter, Carole. From this point on, Norma’s life work was to properly raise her family and support Bob in his endeavors. Together, they enjoyed boating, flying, fishing, RV trips, and various vacations abroad. They lived primarily in Alberta, Washington, Oregon, and finally, Arizona.
Norma cherished the friends they made along the way and adored her family, including being a wonderful Grandma to Daniel, Drew, Scotty, and Hanna. Recently, becoming a Great Grandmother to baby Michael gave her great joy. Norma always loved entertaining and was a gracious hostess, making each guest in her home feel welcome and loved. Her thoughtfulness overflowed, and she had a great capacity to listen and provide a caring presence to whomever she knew. Norma volunteered in her church and had a deeply rooted faith in God. She is in Heaven with The Lord Jesus and finally back together with Bob, her perfect partner of 52 years. Since Bob’s passing nearly 13 years ago, she appreciated her life in Sun Lakes near family, participating in line dancing, mahjong, and attending the Methodist Church. As her health declined recently, her courage and strength were an example to all of us.
Norma is survived by son Brian McCullough (Debbie) of Tucson, Arizona and daughter Carole Goldfein (Mike) of Chandler, Arizona, her grandchildren Daniel McCullough , Drew McCullough (Erin), Scotty Goldfein, and Hanna Goldfein, and great grandson Michael McCullough.
A private family Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 18th at Valley of Sun Mortuary Chapel. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valleyofthesunfuneralhome.com for the McCullough and Goldfein families.
