Nancy (O’Brien) Wells, 74, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family at her home on Friday, June 3, 2022. Nancy was born in Gary, IN and lived in Crown Point, Indiana the majority of her life, attending St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduating from Crown Point High School. She received both her Bachelor’s degree and Masters of Business Administration degree from Indiana University Northwest. She went on to work in multiple positions at NiSource, culminating with a position in Corporate Compliance until her retirement after 25 years with the company.
Nancy was the epitome of a caregiver. She loved to entertain her family and friends both during the holidays and for no reason at all. She was an excellent cook and various family members had their favorite dishes made by her, whether it was her potato salad, her homemade dinner and cinnamon rolls or her homemade fudge. She was always there to help the ones she loved. She lovingly cared for both her mother and her sister when they faced health issues. She was completely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren, always going the extra mile to make special memories that we will all cherish. Nancy was an accomplished businesswoman, working her way up in the company while working full time, going to night school and raising two children as a single mother. She was always striving to better herself both professionally and personally. After retirement, she wanted to continue contributing to her community and used her business skills to serve as Treasurer for her Homeowners Association for five years. Nancy loved spending time with her family, traveling with her husband, entertaining, reading, shopping, gardening, decorating and cooking.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband of almost 36 years, Steven Wells, also of Sun Lakes, AZ; daughter Sandra (Brad) Petee of St. John, IN; son Chad (Meghann) Sarnicki of Gilbert, AZ; stepson Daniel Wells of Cedar Lake, IN; granddaughter Kylie Petee and grandson Tyler Petee of St. John, IN; grandsons Lucas and Blake Sarnicki of Gilbert, AZ; brother Trent O’Brien of Phoenix, AZ; and brother Tom (Sue) O’Brien of Crown Point, IN; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her father Wilbur O’Brien; mother Helen (Rouhselange) O’Brien; brother Terry (Hildegarde) O’Brien; brother Pat (Karen) O’Brien; sister Maureen O’Brien; brother Tim O’Brien and stepdaughter Kristine Wells.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 11am at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014. There will also be a celebration of life held sometime in January, 2023, date TBD, in Scottsdale, AZ.
