Nancy Jane Smith

Nancy Jane Smith was born May 13, 1938 in Sedro-Woolley, Washington to Peter and Lorene Fyfe. She passed at her residence in Sun Lakes, Arizona on October 7, 2022. She spent her childhood in Sedro-Woolley with her sisters, Charlene and Mary Jo and graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School. She married her high school sweetheart David Smith in 1957.

Nancy and David started their family in Mount Vernon, Washington with the arrival of son Michael followed by daughter Diane. David’s career with J.C. Penney Co. saw the family move to Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, and to the Phoenix area in 1979. During this time and beyond Nancy worked as a bank teller. She always enjoyed chatting with her customers at the banks she worked at. Nancy and David moved to Sun Lakes in 1986, where both resided until their passings. Nancy also started an independent tax preparation service in Sun Lakes, which she continued for many years. Nancy and David enjoyed their many friends and traveled the world on several cruises after David’s retirement. They enjoyed golfing together every Sunday at the Cottonwood Course in Sun Lakes. Nancy was a volunteer for many years for the East Valley Assistance League, which raises funds for disadvantaged families to obtain school clothes. Nancy always enjoyed hosting family gatherings at their Sun Lakes home. She also enjoyed going to concerts and theater events with friends. She and David traveled throughout Arizona with a group of friends to enjoy golf weekends for many years. They also enjoyed many week-long California beach vacations with a group of friends.

Nancy is survived by son Michael (Dana), daughter Diane Jones (Donald), grandchildren Jeffrey (Yvette) and Elizabeth, step-grandson Daniel, great grandsons Tanner, Alex, and Jacob, and sister-in-law Sharon.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service to be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248 on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A catered reception will follow the inurnment at Valley of the Sun beginning at 12:30 p.m.
