Maynard James Iverson

Maynard was an accomplished educator. After receiving a Master of Education degree from Colorado State University, he taught for several years in North Dakota. In 1971, he received a Doctorate in Philosophy from Ohio State University. A professorship at North Carolina State University followed. After that, he made a thorough tour of SEC schools in Kentucky, Auburn, and Georgia.

Maynard and Mitzi, his wife of 59 years, retired in 2004. The couple moved to Arizona to be closer to the rest of the Iverson-Frank clan. The family had many big, fun gatherings over the years. Until, as it does, the ravages of time began to reduce the clan's numbers dramatically.

Maynard was a lover of gardening, as well as a great student of history. He also enjoyed cooking, and even tried his hand at beekeeping and winemaking. There was always much entertaining at their beautiful Sun Lakes home, where good card games and history discussions were had aplenty!

Sadly, Maynard spent his last year bed bound after a severe fall which broke his thigh. His wife Mitzi was killed in a car accident a little over a month before Maynard received a sudden cancer diagnosis. He passed on September, 22, 2023, survived by his son Mike and his daughter Melissa, as well as siblings Gary and Kathleen.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held in his honor on November 6th (11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at St. Steven's Catholic Church, 24827 S. Dobson Rd in Sun Lakes).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Knights of Columbus (kofc.org)
