Mary was born on July 2, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, to Harold Scrivens and Beatrice Oldford Scrivens. She passed away in Sun Lakes, Arizona, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, after a fight with dementia.
Mary is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rodney Hobgood, her two children and their families, Jon Hobgood (Cyndi Hobgood) and Amy Wallet (Michael Dean), including four grandchildren (Holly Ignaszewski, David Hobgood, Curtis Wallet, Haley Wallet). She is also survived by her brother Jack Scrivens and her sister Barbara Scrivens. Mary’s sister Joan Gilders and brother Harold Scrivens have already passed beforehand.
Mary was always able to talk to anyone around her, no matter where she was. She helped guide her family on important decisions for their future. She lived most of her life in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, where she loved watching birds and tending roses. Over the years some of her dearest friends were from Temple Baptist, in Detroit, Michigan, and Calvary Baptist in Canton, Michigan. Her primary role was taking care of her family, but she worked in business administration roles throughout her life, including at the University of Michigan. We can imagine her talking to all the people she is meeting in heaven!
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery in Chandler, AZ. The family invites you to express your thoughts and condolences below in their online guestbook.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valleyofthesunfuneralhome.com for the Hobgood family.
