

Loree Hazel Wendt, 93, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2011. Born a few miles from Julesburg,Colorado she was raised on a farm and attended country school. She became a teacher at 16 after graduating from Chappell High School in nearby Nebraska. Loree attended Kearny Nebraska Teacher's College and later received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Arizona State University. Loree retired at 60 from the Kyrene School District, completing a 40 year teaching career. She was a reading specialist for 18 years and loved teaching little children, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a long time member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority with 56 years of service. After her retirement, she spent a considerable amount of time volunteering in her daughter's classroom in California and travelling the world visiting China, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Mexico and the South Pacific. Glenn C. Wendt, her husband of 59 years, preceded her in death in 2001. Loree is survived by a son, George, daughter, Peggy Sue Whisenhunt, daughter-in-law, Patricia, son-in-law, John,7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Her funeral will take place at the First United Methodist Church of Tempe, Arizona, where she was a faithful member for 60 years. Services will be on Thursday, October 13th at 5:00 p.m. with visitation at 4:00 p.m. Internment will follow in Chappell Cemetery in Nebraska.
