The second of nine children, Lacy Walker Jr was born in Eudora, Arkansas to Lacy Walker Sr. and Idella Cash on July 16th, 1935. At the age of 16 Lacy followed his sister Doris moved to California where he would eventually spend the bulk of his life. In 1954 ,Lacy graduated from Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, California.
Graduated from Cal State LA with a Bachelors in Mathematics and Social Studies eventually earned a Masters in School Administration and completed PhD work in school administration. During his storied life he wore many hats: he was an amateur boxer with offers to turn professional, he owned a clothing store and restaurant, worked for the railroad, published a newspaper in Pomona, California called the “FreeWalk Gazette”, managed musical acts and published music with his good friend Arthur Freeman, was a park ranger, corrections officer, teacher and school administrator for over 30 years. Lacy was a member of the Los Angeles Graduate chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Lacy enjoyed spending time with his family, being a father, playing basketball and golf, doing his best to live a healthy lifestyle, and arguing about politics and life with his closest family and friends. He was proud of his roots as a “country boy from Arkansas” and extremely proud of his siblings and family for their various accomplishments.
Lacy is survived by his children LaTanya, Juan, Lacy III and Brandon. He is also survived by siblings Osie Lee Walker, Juanita Walker, Joyce, Felton, Verna, Birtha “Puddin” Truell, Laura Mae Washington and nearly a million nephews, nieces, grands and great grand children. Lacy is preceded in death by parents Lacy Sr and Idella Walker, sisters Doris, Loyce, Laura Mae and his brother Johnnie Walker.
