Joan Sweeney Wall

Joan Florence Wall (née, Sweeney) passed away on November 29, 2022 at the age of 92. Joan was born on May 31, 1930 in Staten Island, NY to the late John and Beatrice Sweeney. She is survived by her children, Philip A. Wall, Jr., Lesley E. Moss, John A. Wall and Christian A. Wall; her 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, former USAF Sergeant, Philip A. Wall.

Joan was born in Staten Island, NY and graduated with high honors from New Dorp High School in 1948. She went on to receive her BA in Political Science from Wagner College in 1952. While at Wagner College, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, serving as Corresponding Secretary. She was also a member of the International Relations Club and Off Hill Girls Cabinet while obtaining her BA. Joan obtained her MA in education in 1954. She married Philip A. Wall and together they shared 14 years of marriage until his passing in 1972. As an educator, Joan taught at various schools on Staten Island including Trinity Lutheran, PS 52R and PS 19R and even taught in Hawaii in 1954. Upon her retirement, she moved to Tempe, AZ in 1994 where she volunteered at the Tempe Historical Museum, The Peterson House and The Qwesters in Tempe, AZ.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service to be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A catered reception will follow the services at 12:00 p.m.
