Jack was preceded in death by his wife Lois Ann Evans. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Johnson (Patrick), granddaughter Allison Hawley (Brandon), great granddaughter Charlotte and Audrey, and nieces Catherine and Patricia.
Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army in the August 1943, wanting to "fight the good fight" against oppression in WWII. While fighting in Normandy he was wounded twice and earned the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and the Distinguished Service Cross. Following the war, he returned to Iowa to attend Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry.
Jack married Lois in 1953 and they remained together for 67 years. He went to work at 3M in St. Paul, Minnesota as a chemist for many years. Jack and Lois retired to Arizona in 1985.
Jack was a true gentleman with a brilliant mind who always wanted to understand the why and how about all subjects. He loved the mountains, archaeology, astronomy, science, cars, dogs, and his family. His favorite times were spent travelling the world with Lois. He will be greatly missed.
Internment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota.
