With his family by his side, God welcomed Jack into his arms on December 27, 2020. Jack was born on March 25, 1944, to the late John and Elsie Ahern in Boston, MA. He married the love of his life, Kathleen (Wegner) in 1974, and raised his two daughters Tiffany (Erik) Elle and Ashley (Jake) Ebenhoch, in Long Grove, IL. He was a proud Papa to Avery and Everett, a caring brother to Pat Fall, Gerry (Beatriz) Ahern, and the late Ray and Betti Ahern and the best uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a friend and mentor to many and was never shy of saying hello or offering his help in a time of need.
After a long and successful career in the insurance industry, thanks to his positive mental attitude, he and Kathy relocated to Gilbert, AZ, to enjoy retirement and be closer to their family. Soon after he retired, Jack was diagnosed with early-onset dementia and battled Alzheimer’s until he passed. Jack will not be remembered for how hard he fought the disease, but for the kindness, patience and generosity that he demonstrated every day of his life. Jack was often referred to as the “Gentleman’s Gentleman” for his deep love for the Lord, his family, and friends. He never put off tomorrow for what he could do today. His life brought so much joy to others. Heaven has most certainly gained a very special angel.
The family would like to thank the staff at Azalea Assisted Living and Hospice of the Valley for their exceptional care over the past few years.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint Mary Magdalene in Gilbert, AZ on January 4, 2021 at 11 AM. You are welcome to attend in person or participate remotely. More information can be found on the Remembering Jack Ahern Facebook group. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate supporting the Alzheimer’s Association.
