Hugh Northcutt Guinn passed away peacefully with his family at his side on January 23, 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born July 18, 1925 in Johnson, Arkansas, to Albert Sidney Guinn and Marie Northcutt. Hugh is survived by his four children; Jim Guinn, Terri (Rick) Hanger; Randy Guinn, and Betsy (Mike) Reader; 8 grandchildren, Lindsey Guinn, Tracy (Casey) McMurphy, Kevin (Nikki) Hanger, grand daughter, Katie Hanger Jeff Hanger, Laura, Sarah and Nick Reader; and 3 great grandsons, Layton and Grayson McMurphy and R. Graeme Hanger. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles and wife of 57 years, Elena. Hugh served in the Merchant Marines, transferring to the Navy where he served as a medic for the Seabees from 1943-46. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1951 where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and met his wife, Elena. They were married August 5, 1950 in Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from the University of Missouri (Kansas City) Dental School in 1956. Hugh lived in Casa Grande, Arizona for 39 years where he practiced dentistry and was very active in community service. Hugh served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Casa Grande Schools, Chamber of Commerce and Community Hospital as well as Mayor of Casa Grande (1977-1985) and President of Arizona League of Cities and Towns. He gained national recognition as an expert in rural government and economic development. Hugh loved his University of Arizona Wildcats. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association from 1967-1983, including President (1972-73). He also served on the University Of Arizona Foundation Board Of Directors and received numerous honors for his service. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 10 am at St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church; 975 East Warner Road, Tempe.
