Herman Williams affectionately known as “Quito” was born on May 5, 1942 in Camaguey, Cuba. He attended school in his home country and was an excellent math scholar. He came to America in 1973 for better opportunities and worked for 11 years at Chase Manhattan Bank. He later worked for the United States Postal Service in New York City for 25 years and retired in 1998.
Quito had a crush on Rosa “Rosita” Blackwood since their early school days that blossomed into a lifelong love. The entire neighborhood in Camaguey knew about the love story between Rosita and Quito. He married Rosa on May 27, 1967. They have three wonderful children and four grandchildren. They were married for 49 loving years.
Quito was a friendly and charismatic man. Everyone fell in love with his charm, his smile, and his kind words. He was hardworking and loved to laugh. He enjoyed reading the bible, debating current events, watching telenovelas, and cheering on his beloved New York Yankees and Mets. Quito also loved traveling abroad and visited many locales across Europe and the Caribbean. He loved quoting scriptures and among his favorite was Psalm 91.
Quito served as an usher and deacon and continued to serve the Lord all the days of his life. He served as an adviser and counseled many youth. He was a surrogate dad to many who did not know their fathers. He was always willing to reach out and go the extra mile for others in need.
Quito is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Williams, three children, Tatiana, Geovanni, and Amine; two sisters, Lillian and Hilda, one brother Frederic, four grandchildren Brooklyn, Israel, Genesis, and Mason. He is also survived by many other family and friends.
