On June 16, 1932, Helen McQuay (Moses) a beautiful brown eyed girl was born, to Lewis and Rosa Moses in Timmonsville, South Carolina. Sadly, on July 13, 2024, in Maricopa, Arizona, surrounded by her family, Helen’s earthly journey came to a peaceful end.
Helen was a lifelong member of the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Temple in Seattle, WA, where she sang with the Echoes of Faith Choir. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Women’s Army Corps, where she served as a nurse. Her laughter was infectious, and her smile could light up a room. She cherished simple pleasures whether it was singing, tending to her garden, baking, fishing, and spending time with her family. Her love for family was boundless.
MOM WAS AND IS STILL OUR QUEEN, she Loved God and His Holy Word. She lived life as humbly as she knew how. Always smiling, she was Kind, Patient, and slow to anger. She loved her children and enjoyed spending time with her Grandchildren. Mama was Mother, Gi-Gi, Granny and Gram-Gram to all their friends.
Helen was preceded in death by: Seven brothers: Ernest, Cleo, James, Clayton, Woodrow, Willie and Otis Moses. Six sisters: Fannie Moses, Elizabeth Isaac, Queen Elizabeth Dickey, Mary Rouse, Martha Davis, and Margaret Perkins. One Great-Grandson; Jashaun Holmes-Fitts.
She leaves to cherish her memories:
Four daughters; Barbara J. Pugh (Seattle, WA), Juanita R. McQuay (Nashville, TN), Rayette (Ray-Ray) M. Aaron(Maricopa, AZ), and Christine Provost (Seattle, WA).
Two sons; John S. McQuay (Issaquah, WA) and Timothy McQuay (Seattle, WA). One sister; Hattie Bines (New York, New York).
Ten grandchildren: Ulonda Pugh, Tra-Shaune Holmes, Nicolas Rudd (Shae), Latrisha Lomax (Lionell), Richard Michael, Latayia Brooks (Christopher), Kenneth Norton (Brook), Dominique Harding (Clemisha), Mahala Provost, Miracle Eke.
Twelve Great-Grandchildren: Rawnisha, Jaylayah, J’Lonnie, Amaryaunah, Alyshia, Kenneth, Liyla, Ezekiel, Zion, Silas, Alyiah, and Khari
And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor on August 21, 2024, at Valley of the Sun Mortuary . In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to The Hospice of the Valley, Gilbert, AZ, where Helen received exceptional care during her final days.
Helen’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. She taught us to keep God first, that kindness is a language everyone understands, and love transcends time. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
