(August 23, 1923 – February 5, 2019)
Frank Shardy was born in Warren, Ohio on August 23, 1923. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Navy. It was 1941 and the United States had entered WWII. He was assigned to a Navy destroyer in the South Pacific and served there as an airplane mechanic and gunner.
After the war he settled in Los Angeles and Marie Gergely, his high school sweetheart, traveled out to meet him. They were married on January 20, 1945. They moved back to Ohio and Frank attended Kent State University with a dream of earning his engineering degree. Unfortunately, family needs superseded school and he stopped short of that degree to take a truck driving job with Morrison Motor Freight. That one job would eventually lead to a career in interstate transportation with several companies before a serious truck accident forced his early retirement.
Although Frank had dreams of a college degree and commercial airline piloting, his dedication and commitment to his family took precedence over his personal wishes. He and Marie raised a family of six children—all successful in their individual endeavors. He can be proud of all he accomplished in his ninety-five years.
He leaves behind six children and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His legacy will carry on through his posterity.
