Frank T. Bernard

Frank Theodore Bernard, 92, of Chandler, AZ, passed away on June 1, 2014. He was born in 1922 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to Leo and Bernice (Harycki) Klasinski. Frank attended St. Perter’s Catholic elementary school and then P.J. Jacobs High School, from which he graduated in 1940. In high school and subsequently at the Golden Gloves level he excelled in boxing and was known by the nickname “Blackie”. In 1943 he married Marie Cypher of Taylor County, WI, and enjoyed her company for 55 years until her death in 1998. Frank served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater and was stationed in both India and at CBI Headquarters in Kandy, Ceylon (Sri Lanka). After his military service Frank studied hand engraving and watch making. He returned to Stevens Point where he worked in that field and as a distributor for Borden Dairy. In 1967 Frank moved his family to Janesville, WI where he worked for the Parker Pen Company as a jeweler in the model shop. He retired in 1984 and moved to Hot Springs Village, AR, where he and Marie took up golf. He enjoyed traveling, socializing and the culinary arts and was known for his sense of humor. He was an active 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. After Marie’s death Frank married Wanda Outlaw of Hot Springs Village. Frank moved to Chandler in 2005. He and Marie had five children: Patty (Taylor), Mel, Susan (Porter), Rosemary and David, as well as nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Florian Klasinski, and his sister, Jean Stroik, both of Stevens Point. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 W Galveston St, Chandler, AZ at 2 PM on June 11, 2014, followed by a memorial service at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point in July.
