Raised in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, she graduated nursing school from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 1943. In 1946 she moved to Casa Grande, Arizona to marry the love of her life, John P. Hindman. Emma continued working as a nurse before raising their four children.
She enjoyed card games and was in the same bridge group for over 50 years. A homemaker, she served as a Cub Scout leader, a 4-H leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a community volunteer. The family hosted Knud-Erik Thrane from Denmark as a foreign exchange student through AFS in 1976-77. She enjoyed learning and returned to college attending CAC and graduated from ASU with a BA in education.
Summers were spent traveling and spending time at the family cabin in Nutrioso. In retirement, John and Emma traveled the world. Their trips were often planned around peak bird watching opportunities. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with family.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years and by her beloved sister, Viola McGarry. Emma is survived by her children, John Hindman (Bonnie), Paul Hindman (Marsha), Holly Ingram (Stan), and Fawn Roach (Anthony), seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Casa Grande on Thursday, April 12th at 7:00pm.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Emma Hindman to the Casa Grande Historical Society, 110 W Florence Blvd, or to the American Cancer Society.
