Duane E Pontek born in Detroit, MI passed away at age 84 on March 30, 2022 in Chandler, AZ. Beloved husband of Carol for 37 years; loving father of James Pontek, and Julie Menitti; devoted stepfather to Stephen Blaylock & Carolyn Roland and his grandchildren, Jayson & Cathryn Pontek, Kohl, Lukas, Erika & Matolyn Roland.
Duane was a Specialist 4 in the US Army’s National Guard & honorably discharged in 1962. He was employed as an Automotive Engineer and Manager, retiring from United Technology after many years. He was Chief Engineer at AM General designing the Humvee.
Outside of work his hobbies and interests included golfing, collectible cars, trains, & attending car shows. He also loved 50-60’s music. Duane and his wife moved to the Robson Community, Oakwood in Sun Lakes in 2000. Duane served as President on Oakwood’s Board of Directors in 2006 & 2007, & Chairperson of the Properties Committee (now Bldg. & Grounds). He and his wife Carol enjoyed their retirement years attending plays, entertaining friends and cruising.
Internment at Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Duane’s name to Hospice of the Valley.
