With her loyal dachshund, Peanut, by her side, she passed away from a heart attack peacefully in her sleep on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019. She was 55 years old.
Doreen was a loving sister to Connie, Pat, Dina and Dana. She was the proud aunt to her nieces and nephews, John Mark, Alyssa, Nathan, Dan, Tim, Jessica, Rhema, Tyler, Travis, Amanda, Parker, Windsor and Delilah.
Doreen graduated from St. Stephens Grade School in 1977 and from Maine West High School, in Des Plaines, IL in 1981. She also attended Harper College. Basketball played a big part of her school years, where she played for her school teams, earning awards as the spark plug of her team and was the captain of her team.
Doreen was the biggest Chicago Cubs fan. In her words, she "bled royal blue". She could talk and argue sports with anyone. Spring training was her favorite time of year. Doreen could be found outside after a game, chasing players for autographs.
She was loud, obnoxious, funny, a trouble maker, a rule breaker, stubborn, and never politically correct. She had a big heart, loved her family, and cherished being together laughing with and at each other.
During her business career she served alongside her mother, Georgette, as her assistant in her NABI bowling operation. She also worked for seven years as a money room manager at Arlington Park Racetrack in Arlington Heights, IL.
Doreen thrived in any environment where she served the public with her humor and desire for fun. She had the gift of making everyone laugh and was always the center of attention at any gathering.
Her unique personality will live on in the stories we will share about her for many years to come.
A celebration of life will be held for Doreen on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 10:00am at Valley of the Sun Cemetery; 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd. Chandler, Arizona 85248 in the Chapel Mausoleum.
