Oler, D. Carolyn 82 of Gilbert, AZ passed away peacefully on October 15, 2015. She was born in West Virginia and later resided in California and Arizona. She graduated high school from Pasadena Academy. She was an active homemaker serving her family, her community, and her church.
Carolyn was one of four children born to the late Lonnie and Helen Graley and was the beloved wife of the late James Oler for 56 years. Her memory will be cherished by her eldest brother, Richard Graley, her daughters, Bobbie Jo Miller, Becky Witt, Brenda Mastin, Bonnie Howe, and Belinda Bennett, her son-in-laws, Andy Miller, Brian Mastin, Ted Howe, and Bryan Bennett, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren along with countless relatives and friends across the country who were blessed to know her.
Early in her life, she was diagnosed with polio and became a poster child in West Virginia for the March of Dimes. In her community she enjoyed serving as a precinct committeeman for the Republican Party during which time she worked on election boards and registered people to vote. In her church, she held positions as missionary society president and Sunday school teacher along with singing in the choir for many years. She was also delighted to serve on Work and Witness trips at Native American Christian Academy, in Mexico, and in Ecuador and sponsored children living in these areas through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. Carolyn was known for her creativity in sewing, quilting, baking, painting, and carving. She was privileged to travel for leisure in all fifty states along with Canada and Okinawa.
Carolyn touched the lives of many people with her faith, her kindness, her smile, and her laughter. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Friday, October 30, from 6 - 9 p.m. at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, Arizona, and a memorial service on Saturday, October 31, at 10 a.m. at Tempe Church of the Nazarene, 3929 S.
