Clark Cooper (86) of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away early Thursday morning, September 8, 2022 after a short battle with cancer and kidney failure. Clark was born to Robert & Geraldine Cooper on October 19, 1935 in O’Donnell, Texas.
Clark served in the United States Army Signal Corps in the late 1950’s, post Korean War, then ultimately returned back to Lubbock, Texas. He spent the bulk of his career in the construction trade, working in the aluminum awning field, as well as disaster restoration construction for the vast majority of his career.
He married his sweetheart, Peggy Lee Henyan, in 1960, in Anaheim, California. After 10 years in California, they moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they raised their three children. In 2005, they moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona, and ultimately to Gilbert, Arizona, where they reached their 62nd wedding anniversary shortly before his passing.
Clark is well known for his sense of humor, and his ability to find a construction solution to just about everything. Dedicated to his church, he served in many positions over the years, and eventually served as a missionary in the Family History Center, helping countless people find information on their ancestors, which was one of his life’s passions.
Clark leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Peggy Lee Cooper, daughter Stacy Clifford (Dan), son Mark Cooper (Sue), eight grandchildren: Carrie Yost (Scott), Kristin Johnson (Jacob), Cory Clifford (Stephanie), Scott Cooper, Matthew Cooper, Spencer Cooper, Jenna Cooper, and Elyse Cooper, as well as eleven great-grandchildren: Jillian Thomas, Jackson Thomas, Jason Thomas, Emery Johnson, Parker Johnson, Kennedy Johnson, Warner Johnson, Logan Yost, Austin Clifford, Berlynne Clifford, and Carter Clifford.
Clark was preceded in death by his son Robert Cooper (Joni), his grandson Ryan Thomas (Erin), his parents, Robert Cooper and Geraldine Cooper, and his sisters, Barbara Floyd, and Joan Stephenson.
The family would like to give special thanks to Arizona Hospice of the Valley who provided outstanding care during his final weeks, as well as Nattie Defrances from Care Partners, who was his helper and companion in his final weeks. They would also like to thank the Layton Lakes 3rd Ward for their tireless efforts to provide special attention, love, and friendship to both Clark and Peggy during the months before Clark’s passing.
